Building on our success

We are deep in the thick of extensive building work at the moment, but will emerge soon as a much improved location for you all to enjoy. New windows, new roof, new central heating, new lift, new conference room floor, new ground floor kitchen and amazing new media facilities in the basement, WOW!!! . Please be aware that some classes at the centre are being cancelled due to the current weather situation. If you need clarification please call the class or group leader in the first instance. If you are running a class and want to check whether the centre will be open please call the centre office on 01225 423014. Centre closes for Christmas

Phoenix Still flying high!

We are thrilled to have had a successful Ofsted inspection at our After School Club recently (based at St Andrews School). The childcare setting was awarded an overall 'good' rating by the inspector and rated 'outstanding' in areas such as the effectiveness in which the setting promotes equality and diversity, the effectiveness of partnerships, effectiveness engaging with parents and the extent to which children make a positive contribution. Community Celebration Event

Our 2009 community workshops are now at their end and to celebrate the programme we are holding one final event on Friday (20th November) from 4.30-6.30pm at the Percy Centre. You can take part in mini workshops such as drumming, clay modelling, face painting and making festive swags. The half term that has just passed saw a jam packed schedule for the music studio and the, still under construction, Media Suite. Black Families Education Support Group, Percy's own 'Perceptions Project' and Suited and Booted were all in together helping young people to create music photography and film. Community event around the corner

Our 2009 community workshop programme (funded by Awards For All Lottery Fund) is now coming to an end. To celebrate the programme and bring everyone together again, we are planning a big event next month. This will include a range of small workshops, food, games and music. Percy Community Centre has received a special award from the The Children’s Society. The Children's Rights Charter has been awarded to the centre for the way it involves children in making decisions in all of its projects. Play Point for local children

We have installed a new notice board at Lampard Buildings off of Julian road to provide up to date information about what is going on in the local community. The 'Play Point' has been funded by th Quartet Safer and Stronger Communities fund and was put up by Somer Housing. It will help children and young people to keep up to date about events and activities in Kingsmead. Children can also meet our play workers at the play point on Monday afternoons between 4.00-6.00pm for fun and games!...

Mark Making with 'Urban Art'

The Young People of the Percy Youth Project (PYP) made their mark on the Centre last friday in a joint 'Urban Art' project organised by Percy and the city centre Police Community Support Officers with funding from Crime Beat. Fun in The Sun (street party)

The street party we had on New King Street (just outside the Centre) on 08/08/09 in partnership with Somer Community Housing Trust and other Local groups was a huge success, partly due to us, but mostly down to the fantastic weather and the great cooperation from local residents in clearing all the cars and letting us transform the street in to a real community space for a day. Street Party Update

Here is the latest on the street party. Thanks to Somer Community Housing Trust stepping as a major funder we now have enough resources to really get going. We will have a stage with live music and DJ sets from local bands, many of whom are based at Percy, including the Rainbow Steel Orchestra. There will be giant junk modelling, break dancing, a bouncy castle, face painting and lots of other activities all free. Media Suite Success!

The Percy Community Centre are expanding their facilities once again thanks to a successful funding application to Youth Bank. As part of the MediaPlayers group along with Suited and Booted, Black Families Education Support Group, Sound Knowledge and Media art Bath we have secured £14,000 to construct a Video Suite to house film editing and screening facilities. Launch of new web site
